Anuradhapura

Anuradhapura was Sri Lanka’s first capital and was the royal kingdom for over 100 kings dating back to the 4th century BC. The sheer size and artistry of the ancient monasteries of Anuradhapura is evidence of an exceptionally advanced ancient civilization. The most special sites in Anuradhapura include the Mahavihare –the first monastery built by King Devanam Piyatissa in 250 BC and Srimaha Bodhi – the ancient Bo Tree which is the oldest documented tree in the world.
