Liyadiriya

Liyadiriya was founded by Ayesha & Nalin Perera the owners of Tamarind Gardens Homestay which is located in the small town of Digana, 17 km from Kandy. The essence of the project is to enable the women of the village to develop a sustainable source of income while keeping them away from the harsh conditions of the dolomite mines which used to be their only source employment. The ladies of Liyadiriya, produce many handicrafts including bags made from scrap material and used packaging material. Their products are colourful, thoughtful and most importantly, the project is a “Go Green” initiative which contributes towards the reduction of plastic consumption. Island Adventures purchases their products which make perfect mementos of Sri Lanka for our clients.
