Elephant Transit Home
The Elephant Transit Home (ETH) was first setup by the Born Free Trust. It is now managed by the Sri Lanka wildlife department. Orphaned or injured elephants from across the island are brought to the ETH for care and rehabilitation. When the animals are old enough and well, they are radio-colored and released into the Udawalawe National Park in small groups. Thefirst groups released have already started reproducing successfully in the wild. A truly admirable initiative.
