Sigiriya

Sigiriya is one of Sri Lanka’s most exciting heritage sites. It was built in the 5th century AD by King Kassapa. Many romantic legends surround Sigiriya which was built to be a fortress and palace for the rouge king Kassapa who killed his father King Dhatusena to claim the throne which rightfully belonged to his brother. The impressive fortifications of Sigiriya reveal the constant fear of retribution suffered by King Kassapa. One of the highlights of Sigiriya are the fascinating frescos of heavenly maidens which date back to the 5th century. This engineering marvel, its breathtaking views and inspiring legends make it a place that cannot be missed.
